Our Company History
Batjer owes its success to our teams' hard work and dedication, who have always placed customer satisfaction as top priority!
In 1947 Arch Batjer and Ralph St. John established Batjer & St. John, a residential heating and air conditioning service located at 765 Hickory Abilene, Texas.
A couple of years after (1951) the partnership hired Frank E. Peck, a mechanical engineer and pursued commercial and industrial work.
Lewis Chase joined the company by 1955. A decade after the establishment, the company name became Batjer & Associates after the retirement of Mr. St. John.
Partners were Arch Batjer, Frank E. Peck, Larry Purcell & Wiley Connally. Around 1958, Jim Jennings came to work in sales and estimating. Soon, the company started to grow and added a plumbing department composed of 25 individuals, supervised by Jack Pursley in 1960.
The company continued to expand in the ‘70s with projects from Abilene to San Angelo, Midland, Odessa, and Sweetwater to Bay Town and Del Rio. With the passing of Arch Batjer in 1976, Frank Peck took over and became company president with Lewis Chase and Jim Jennings as partners. Clint Ferrell and Mike Denny join the firm soon afterwards.
By 1979, the company began to focus on commercial & industrial establishments. After the retirement of Frank Peck in 1986, Jim Jennings became president with Lewis Chase and Clint Ferrell as VP & Mike Denny became Secretary-Treasurer. By that time, the company had 50 employees.
Lewis Chase retired in 1989. After Clint Ferrell (1995) and Jim Jennings’ passing (1997), Mike Denny assume the role of company president. The company’s steady growth of 89 employees in 1998 made them move to a new location at 2825 Pine Street and by the year 2000, Batjer Service started under the leadership of Mark Sutphen.
